Sanur is situated on the eastern part of the Bali coastline, protected by a coral reef. The waves are much gentler and therefore Sanur's beach is known as the holiday place for the whole family and honeymooners alike. Sanur is also home to the famous Le Mayeur Museum, the former home of the Belgian painter. Sanur was one of the the first tourism destinations of Bali and for the last two decades the village of Sanur has been the hideaway destination of numerous famous jet setters, and many property has been sold and there is still for sale, but prices have gone up. Sanur is rich in contrasts. Life in the Village goes on very much as it always has. In the evenings you sometimes hear practising gamelan orchestras through the cool ocean air. You can find plenty of Toko's and Warungs selling clothes, art, crafts such as wooden statues and other souvenirs. Restaurants along the beach have a true Balinese feel, and while Sanur attracts a lot of tourists, it is still very Bali. Fisherman stroll along the beach and the outrigger canoes can be hired for sailing trips along the coast and to the outlying Indonesian islands while the more adventurous at heart can try their hand at para sailing, jet skiing and scuba diving.
