The Cultural Heart

Ubud is certainly a popular destination for travelers, and many expatriates have a home in Ubud too. Ubud is about 35 kilometers from the airport (45 minutes) and famous for its restaurants, rice paddies and dance performances. Known as the cultural heart of Bali, it has plenty of museums, galleries and artistic activity. Popular places to visit in Ubud are the Monkey Forest, Elephant Caves (Goa Gajah). Ubud is about 600 meters above sea level, and therefore a bit cooler than beach areas.
